EPC LIGHT

Post by Oakene »

Hi Guys, please assist.

I am driving a Golf 5 1.6 Trendline, 2007 Model. My car is generally sluggish and slightly jerks when taking off and but from about 60kph it drives okay. On most days the EPC light comes on and then the power is further reduced. I then have to pull over and switch the car on and off to remove the EPC light. In the last 2 years I have replaced my petrol pump, petrol filters, oxygen sensor (lambda),etc but the problem persists. The car also consumes a lot of petrol. I have taken the car to several dealers with diagnostic machines and they say nothing is being picked up to indicate the problem.

Do you have suggestion what the problem could be and how I can go about fixing it?

Can't see why a dealer would not be able to pick up the error codes, everything that triggers the EPC light should be recorded.
Although Ican't imagine VCDS would be better than the dealer diagnostics, Have you tried someone with VCDS?

Honestly, I dont know what is, I checked it online it shows a Diagnostic USB Interface. Im not sure if they have used that to diagnose the car. I will have to verify.

Where abouts are you? Maybe they can run a VCDS scan and see if anything comes up?

I managed to do a VCDS scan and it picked up the following faults:

18675 – Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1
P2243 – 006 – Reference Voltage Open Circuit – Intermittent
16555 – Fuel rim: Bank 1
P0171 – 006 – System Too Lean – Intermittent
17511 – Oxygen (Lamba) Sensor Heating; B1 S1
P1103 – 007 – Performance too Low – Intermittent
18570 – Accelerator Position Sensors (G79) / (G185)
P2138 – 008 – Implausible Correlation – Intermittent
16555 – Fuel Trim; Bank 1
P0171 – 006 – System Too Lean - Intermittent

Sorry I am hopeful my car will be sorted out. the motor technician seems knowledgeable and skilled. Thank you guys for your input, I appreciate it.
Cheers!

I would start by replacing the first lambda sensor, and I am almost certain that half of those errors will go away. If performance is down then try unplugging the sensor and see if performance improves.

VW sell both sensors as a package at R4500. Not suree if yours have one or two?
