2001 Polo 1.4 Fueling issue

Post by Mal_Jan »

Good day

Well my daughter bought her fist car, a little Polo Playa 1.4

Since day one (as the dealer did inform us) the car has a small issue. Sometimes driving up hill she will cut out for like a second and then go again. In the mornings she will splatter a bit, a second or 2 then idles smoothly. I have OCD so just thinking about it drive me mal.

Seeing this was fuel related i thought it will be easy peasy is a do a lot of my own mechanical work on my fleet. Here is the list i did myself and few thing i had done.

Coil was changed (New Agents)
Fuel pump changed (New Bosch)
MAP sensor changed (New Agents)
Dizzy (New Goldwagen)
Coolant temperature sender changed (New Febi Bilstein Goldwagen)
Fuel rail changed (Secondhand Was tested by the place who serviced the injectors)
Injectors serviced (Had it done and wow, car drives so much smoother)
Timing checked and adjusted (Had it done)
Knock Sensor (Had it done, didn't receive the old part)
Had the car plugged in on something they call VCDS and there was no errors

So there is the list of things i did to the car and the issue still remains.

Only other thing i can think of now will the the compute box. I've notice its in the shitty place, by the wiper motor where rain can get in. The connection looks well sealed. I did check the pins and found no corrosion.

Did i miss something?

Thanks

Of all the things you changed you missed two of the most likely culprits
Fuel pump relay
Ignition switch

Thanks a lot. Ignition switch never even crossed my mind.

Will do the relay for her this afternoon.

Will the key change on the ignition switch or can we keep the barrel?

No keep the barrel. Just the electrical part changes

But I always stress the importance of diagnostics vs randonly replacing parts.
One of the easiest ways to test the pump or relay is to just fit a fuel pressure gauge and you can do it as a temporary fitment.
If the pressure drops before it hesitates you know it is fuel related. From there do a simple check by wiring a voltmeter to the pump and see if the power disaapears or not. Then coil supply etc. until you can confirm or deny what is causing the problem.

My probleem is weg na die pomp vervang is. Dalk is jou pomp foutief wat jy gekry het of daars dalk n ander probleem wat die selfde simptone gee.

Jason, so bly vir jou die probleem is nou weg.

So ver nog niks gehoor van my dogter af nie.
