Jetta 1.6 carb blurps when ignition off

Post by Imotions »

Hi guys
Not sure if blurp is the right word
My issue is when driving and car at normal temp the idle is high like 1200rpm how do i get it back down? Base plate fine vacuums seem fine
Also when driving for a while and i switch the car off the carb like still has life where it wants to start again then switches off..like it just get a last breath and switches off

This "overrun" or "after-run" (trying to translate from German here) tends to happen if the idle cut-off solenoid valve is not working properly. The carburetor still aspirates fuel, which then ignites (detonates) on glowing residues in the combustion chambers.

Does the carb have an automatic or manual choke? I'm wondering whether the choke is not fully opened, causing the high idle and the after-run.

Yup stuck choke or cutoff solenoid not working.
If the choke is not closed then adjust the idle screw down to the rpm drop.

Its a manual chokethe one you pull in the car...
This happened only after i serviced the car regular oil plugs filter service the car never want to idle i seen somehow that solonoid thing at the back of the carb with a yellow wire running to the coil was loose off the carb so i tightened it but the car still never idle the air screw i think its called was closed so i opened it a bit and it idled but idling high and started doing this when switching the engine off

If i try adjust that idle screw it either goes too high or low that it cuts off doesn't matter whether engine is cold warm or hot

Check the power to that wire and makes sure the earth from the carb to the tappet cover is in place. if in doubt remove the cutoff solenoid and hold it against the engine - let somebody operate the key on/off and see that it moves.
Also try some punctuation in you sentences.

Ohk
The solenoid clicks if the key is on and i play with it at the coil.
The ground to the tappet cover is on securely.
I will remove and see if the solenoid moves
