VW Golf 1 manual vs Automatic. Drive shaft and inner cv's

Post by arsonist »

Hi everybody.

My 1st time owning a Automatic Golf 1.

It's having a inner cv and drive shaft issue. Is there a huge difference between the manual and automatic drive shafts and inner cv's. Have crazy shudder and mechanic said there is a difference and hard to find that drive shafts for the auto.

Any advice on where and what my steps are. There is a huge shudder coming from the drive shaft and need it replaced as well as inner cv.

Thanks a million.

Is The shaft bent or worn on the splines? Because other than that a shaft can cause vibration.. Have you checked the engine and gearbox mounts?

The mechanic said it looks like the spline was wielded or modded to try fit the inner cv from a manual or something along those lines. . I cant remember exactly what but he said he will have to mod the spine to fit correct.

There ar several different lengths of driveshafts in mk1. You basically need to get the correct length and go scrapyard hunting.
The auto box one was not unique. You'll find a similar size
