Hi guys,
I have noticed my car has started to ping over the last few months, I don't remember a specific time it started or a distinctive event.
Mileage on the vehicle is 220k km, recent maintenance :
1. oil change (frequency 10000km)
2. I changed the water pump about 3 months ago.
My research points to:
- Timing
- air/fuel ratio
- efficiency of cooling system
- spark plug spec
- grade of fuel
- carbon build up
The thing is with regard to timing, air/fuel ratio, spark plug spec & grade of fuel, these should be standard & not need to be changed unless there is something else wrong?
Heat gauge is normal after changing the water pump so I don't think it would be that?
With high mileage carbon build is possible, I used the vehicle for long distance 180km per day & I once read somewhere that driving a car at 120kmh for an hour should burn up the carbon?
Please share your thoughts or any advice?

Re: 2010 Polo Vivo 1.4 63kw - pinging
had the same issue sitting on 370k
mach tightened the cam belt to spec and had the knock sensor replaced scan with VCDS however still having the same issue although i must mention it isn't as sensitive as before running on 95 v power only which seems to help
i only experience pinging under heavy load but normal driving there inst any sign of that disease
haven't solved the issue but ran out of options

this should be the BLM motor, chain driven.....could be tensioner related

Re: 2010 Polo Vivo 1.4 63kw - pinging
I drove a 55kw for a year, I found that 93 octane caused pinging, 95 made it a lot better...it also seemed to have a bit more torque with 95.

@Wolfburger - I have the 63kw motor with timing chain, as UDC mentioned it maybe the tensioner.
I live at the coast & use Sasol 95 unleaded, I don't think Shell Vpower would make a difference?
