Good day
Im new here so bare with me.
I just purchased a golf 1 as stated in my subject line a while back. i never really drove it much due to the front door not locking , it was parked for about 3 days. after 3 days when i started her up she started fine and i used it for the day and did not have any issues. i then took the car in for an alarm system and central locking to sort my door that wasnt locking, with that sorted the next day i drove the vehicle fine until i switched off for about 5 minutes. when switching back on it refused to start. after much swinging a short break it started up normal. this happened again after 2 days , all of a sudden after switching it off it didnt start. kicked started the car and it started fine. this happened about 3 occasions. i decided not to use the alarm for 3 days now and havent had a problem so far (Touch Wood). another problem i have is the ignition module for my car is placed on the outer part of the engine bay not on the inside, i have covered this up with plastic to prevent-it from getting wet as i was advised by the old owner. due to rain i suppose the car before starting flashed the battery/ ignition and alarm light and it went off before swinging, after swinging again it started properly. i also noticed my temp gauge does not work and never heard my fan ever come on after switching the car off. please advise me on these problems.

Move the module covering up will just make it overheat
When it just swings check if there is spark
Check if the fan runs when the engine is operating at temperature. Not all of them run after the ignition is off.
