compression reading

Post by caddy club »

hi guys

Please help me out

to do a compression reading with a compression tester, on a caddy club 1.6 carb and what should the reading be?

what is the best way to do this, pedal fully depress with the butterfly open, how do you cut the carb from spraying fuel inside the motor or shouldn't there be a difference if fuel goes through into the engine

All the plugs out. undo power form the coil. Foot flat , crank till reading stabilize. Don't have to undo anything on the carb. It is a couple of rotations. Little bit of fuel is not going to affect the reading.
Roughly 9-12 bar-ish depending on altitude and engine condition and mods.
The more important thing is that they are all around the same pressure as long as that pressure is not nothing or let's say much under 8 bar.

Hi Panic

I did another reading this weekend and its still reading 900 with throttle wide open, but all 4 piston compression readings were the same, so what you said 900 is fine

how much does a 276 cam affects the compression reading?

the 900 reading is it kpa because the compression reader just gives it like that in 100's

276 will lower the reading a little. I am not sure why you are worried about any of this. What ar you trying to actually diagnose.

no nothing serious, why am asking about the reading is the manual states 1000 - 1300 for 1.6 but if you are saying 900 is fine then I am happy

Manual quotes sea level altitude and stock cam. Longer cam will reduce static cr hence a lower reading and so will our altitude. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I also check oil pressure this weekend and reading was around 2.5 bar (250kpa) on idle with engine normal temp, this was done at the head oil sensor removed and not the bottom one

Is the oil pressure fine?

yes, can go down as much as to 0.85 bar. What are you diagnosing? honestly just say what the fault is. instead of all these are this ok - is that ok things.

my buzzer light comes one every now and then and the oil switches have been replaced, its not a fixed time when it comes on, car can be cold sometimes and can warm sometimes, sometimes it stays on for a couple of seconds and sometimes just a quick buzz and gone

The only thing I then suspect must be the cluster giving me problems, this is on the oil pressure side

For the compression pressure I was just checking what my compression are, that's about it

So for the oil, pressure leave a mechanical guage connected for a while. When the cluster goes off see if there is physical pressure. If so you know you are ok and can start hunting doen the electrical gremlin. Can be a semi broken wire or a bad contact in the cluster.
