Good day.
I have a citi golf 1.4i.
The problem i have is when i start it when it is cold it idles but then cuts out. I have to do this several times before it idles without cutting out and idle a while longer before i drive due to it does not rev. I could start it whenever and drive directly now not anymore and have no clue what it could be. The timing is right aswell
It has never done this before. Please any advice will be helpfull.

Seems as if the car is starving for fuel when cold.. i would CHECK the 4pin water temp switch and map sensor..
Get somebody with a scantool to view a live data stream of coolant temp, intake air temp, manifold pressure at a cold start.. if any 1 of those readings seem incorrect then u can focus on that particular sensor... (the intake air temp sensor is built into the map sensor)
Normally on a cold start more fuel is added.
I always only noticed a failed water temp switch causing high idling - overfueling.. but i dont know exactly how the switch is made or how it works so im not too sure if it can cause underfueling at low temps, worth the check.

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on

Sounds like the water temp switch has failed, those are the symptoms when you start it in the morning or when the motor is cold it idles but then cuts out as soon as you touch the throttle it dies, I've changed mine with the one from GW and its been working 100% ever since. Just check the color band on the temp switch your's should be blue replace it with the same one from GW

I had a Polo 1.6i 2002 , the coil had a crack on it which had similar symptoms , but does sound like a cold start water temp switch problem
