Re: 17 inch rims vs 15 inch rims
I'd say low profile 17z are the worst for the 400m ..much more grip with 15s

Assuming tyre width is the same, why would 15's give you more grip than 17's?dubz-on-drugz wrote:I'd say low profile 17z are the worst for the 400m ..much more grip with 15s

Re: 17 inch rims vs 15 inch rims
This is just my thoughts on this .the increase in tyre wall size increases the level of grip .it will be nice to get clarity on this one

195/50/15 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 will be right for Raveens application- 2.0 8v N/A
17" on the golf throws the gearing ratios off which a lot more damaging to a 400m time- unless its a turbo golf don't waste your time with 17's period.
Having had 17'' rims and tires on my golf, worst ever for racing!!! Have to say though it looked sexy as hell, I got lucky when our detailing legend on the forum Lawrence sold me his rims that were on the Polo he had.

Re: 17 inch rims vs 15 inch rims
It will allow the tyre to flex more ?using the concept of slicks ?

Re: 17 inch rims vs 15 inch rims
I see where you are going with the side wall flex but running a 50 profile, even on a 205 tyre, isn't a high side wall at all and I wouldn't think it would flex anywhere near as much as a drag radial would.

Re: 17 inch rims vs 15 inch rims
I recently had 17's on my citi golf(2.1 16v N/A) and changed over to 15's.
The 17's does have better launch, but does not accelerate fast.
The 15's is perfect for a N/A car, it drives better, accelerate faster, but you do have to launch softer(I just feather it in 1st and 2nd gear)
I can't go smaller that 15's(big brakes), but even for drags(semi slicks) and my gear ratios, the 15's is the answer.
