Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Agreed. I added oil cooler because that's how it generally gets referred to. But the coolant system pressure pushing water into the oil when the engine is off makes sense. The exchanger failed on my 8V and the flow was one way into the water (perhaps I just picked it up early).
In that case, drain the oil and coolant, flush the coolant system many times, replace the exchanger, tabbed O ring and oil filter, refill the cooling system with water. Then check whether it still mixes, if not, drain and fill with coolant/water mix. If it does mix, then it's more serious.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Yup it's actually a big mess to get everything cleaned out when they fails. For a long time you have an oily residue in the cooling system.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Hi Panic and THANAS
So I did not understand any of the technicalities that Panic gave except for the 'oil cooler' gone bad therefore possibility of that making a mixture if I am understanding correctly!
Do you guys suggest I drain oil then flush engine with engine flush or I heard 5l diesel works also don't know how though.
Does anyone of you have a picture of the so called 'oil cooler' / heat exchanger
Do I first flush the engine then replace the heat exchanger and see or flush and see with the old one in place?
Do I only flush the oil or coolant or flush both out the system as coolant bottle is clear only dipstick is messed
Please advise as this would save me some serious cash
Thanks again

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Take a picture of your engine where the oil filter is visible. I have never lokked at a vivo so not sure even what motor they run. If it's there i'll mark it for you.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Mmm. Unless they have it mounted to the block there is no heat exchanger there.

Then it will most likely be the head gasket...panic-mechanic wrote:Mmm. Unless they have it mounted to the block there is no heat exchanger there.
Head skimming, head bolts, head gasket. At least. With the fan not coming on overheated most certainly.
Good luck...

thats pics i took last night
Now its confusing the hell out of me as you guys stated I too cant see any heat exchanger /oil cooler so any way I pull the dipstick out and oil is creamy so I wipe it and put back and check again oil is clear now if it was mixing wouldn't it only be coming out creamy? car is standing from Friday would the oil and water separate in this time it stood?

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Yup. Water lies at the bottom. So if you very slowly open the sump drain plug you should get water coming out first.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
Well check if there is water. If so then yes you have an issue.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
It is common ONLY to south africa. So nobody in south africa produceses workshop manuals so basically you will never see anything like a hayens manual for it.
Unless you are associated with a dealer network nothing will be available.

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
I remember reading something about the Vivo range having the same or similar engines to the 6R? Although I may be thinking of the suspension.panic-mechanic wrote:It is common ONLY to south africa. Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
I have a 2007 1600 polo. Fan also not working. Replaced thermostat, housing and sensor. Fan still not coming on when engine gets hot. What can it be? Relay? Someone said relay is in dashboard so must take everything apart to get to it. Is that true?

Re: Polo Vivo radiator fan not working
No. The relay/fan control module is bolted below the battery tray.Rikuspolo wrote:I have a 2007 1600 polo. Fan also not working. Replaced thermostat, housing and sensor. Try bridging the pins on the radiator 3pin switch and see if the module clicks and if the fans spin.
If the module clicks and fans dont spin u probably have toasted fans, if theres no clicking from the module then u probably have a dead fuse or module or a bad earth.
Fuse 5,11 and 8 in the battery cover are for the fans.
