Golf Mk1 1100cc not getting petrol

Post by Stompie »

Sup guys,

A While back we bought this 1982 Golf 1 1100cc GL and now it doesnt want to start. looks like the car isnt getting any fuel to the engine as the petrol filter is dry even after adding 20liters to it.

No im not too clued up on these cars so need to get some info.

Recently we fitted alarm and anti hijack where you press the button before you start it and if you dont press it it cuts the car and i think it cuts the fuel. now my question is, does this car use a electric Fuel pump and where does it sit and also where is the relay so i can check this. want to make sure its not the fuel pump before i take the car back to the place that fitted the anti hijack to then sort out there ****.

TIA

As standard its a mechanical pump at the back of the head driven by the cam shaft, Easily accessible from the top. Cant be electrically cut.

If no fuel is even getting to the pumb it must be a hose air leak or completely failed pump

The fuel filter is dry? so im taking its not sucking the petrol so might be either a air leak in one of the lines or maybe it popped off the fuel pump. will check this.

what would the anti hijack cut then if not petrol? maybe a relay or something?

Thanks

jip lol we pressed the button, nothing.

so im going to take a look at the fuel lines and it they are fine will check the pump. if all els fails then check if i can unhook the antihijack or take the car back and let them check. car was fine before the anti hijack and then it started with its ****, then its fine then its giving us **** on and off...but now nothing, nada, no start

don't you hgave any electric fuel pumps?
Wire it in temprorarly and see it she starts, then would eliminate the anti hijack scenario.
Will also prove if car is getting fuel or not.

Too much effort, just suck on the fuel hose and see if fuel comes, if it does check the pump..

With the hoses off the pump feel with your fingers by blocking the pipes to feel for pressure or vacuum while the starter is turning

Fold the fuel return hose over so that fuel can't return to the tank, then try starting it.

Look under the car for one of those fuel cutoff solenoids as well. Hd one car where i removed one becuase it was not getting power. Still would not run. Tried to blow back to the tank on the fuel line and got no joy. Though fuel line blocked and found a second unit under the car.

hehe blowing back first is a better idea, and its better for your health..

It will determine if there is a blockage, but not for a air leak which should be the second check rather

I was experiencing this exact problem. I too have a fuel solenoid for the anti hijack system. What I did to get her chooching again.

1.Replaced my fuel pump.
2.Replaced my fuel filter.
3.put in new fuel hoses wherever I could.
4.replaced the oneway valve going back to the tank.
5.I serviced my carbureter

Thanks for all the help everyone
