Dsg gear issue

Post by kbb »

Hi

Hoping someone can assist or advise. I have a tiguan 4m dsg, when i select D to drive it starts/displays D2. If i change to S mode gear starts/displays D1.

Anyone experience this?

My friends Caddy is the same. Also 2.0 tdi. We recon the motor has enough torque to pull away in second, or so the dealers told him.

Your gear selector inside the car can be on its way out. By any change that some liquid been spilled on it?

That's normal. The Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic and 8-speed ZF transmissions do the same. Are you sure it displays D1 and not S1 when you put it in Sport mode?

Sounds weird...If you move it to manual mode and shift down does it change to D1?

Sorry yes it changes to S1 not D1 specific for S mode.

If i do a fault check, will it be able to pick up the fault?

Have you scanned it, or taken to VW for a fault check?

I don't see what the issue is? Many modern day cars will pull off from stand still in 2nd gear.

Nothing wrong with it. Tiguan TDI does switch to D2 rather on pull away. There is a firmware version update from VW that will force it to D1 every time. Some parts of the world had different gearbox settings. Like USA version does not display the current gear in die display.

I fail to see how that is a possibility - when he shifts into Drive, it shifts into D. When he shifts to Sport mode, it switches to S. The only way you can control which forward gear the car is in is with the M program (move the shifter to the left) or with the paddles. This is purely how the gearbox was programmed to react in normal driving conditions - it is not indicative of any fault in either the gearbox or the shifter and its related electronics.
