Jetta 4 tdi fuel start puzzler problem

Post by VWJTDI »

So about a week ago i did my head over because one of the valve qauters went and also my tensioner that broke on the cam luckily dropping only one exhaust valve broke of and shot back in the valve seat hole.so yeah did the timing ,new valve etc, piston was okay done the whole deal.the car ran for 4 days fine like a dream until friday when i stopped at a stop the car stalled .then i turned the engine white smoke appeared and with lot of key turning the car ran for about a second each time then stalled.it ran very poorly at that second.i drained my fuel filter thinking it was water in the system because i stopped at the garage earlier, the filter was wet with diesel on top checked the fuel lines on top couldnt see leakage upon that stage ,tried to bypass the filter because of the idea that it may be faulty and seeing air bubbles in the pipe to the diesel pump about longer than about 3 cm ,tried dident work.went away this weekend.this morning i tried to bleed the system through.and it dident start.the shutter valve works fine ,the glow plugs work the (timing belt is fine this was the first thing i checked when the car stalled),sellenoid works on the pump ,it gets diesel through the injectors each one injects, dont know if its water in the injector pump .so please any any idea what it may be and solution would be greatly appreciated thank you

What's the mileage on the car, and have the diesel-pump seals ever been replaced?

I'd redo the diesel pump seals, it seems like your engine isn't getting enough diesel. Are there any Check engine lights?

Best would then be to try and bleed the system manually with a vacuum pump, but that's going to take a while.

I know its a bit late to reply, but how did the pump timing go out? It means that the tension on your belt wasnt right?

Hi guys. I think I have the same issue. Car cuts out while driving. Seems like everytime I ride over 140km/h it does that. Electronically everything is fine. Just the diesel isn't going into the engine. Pulled out the relay 109, popped the cover, no visible wear. Pulled the fuel sending unit from the tank, cleaned it with high pressure air, guage is going haywire on the cluster. Car cranks but doesn't start. Hoping it's not that ECU. However, the car did drive perfectly even better after the system was bled through thoroughly. Started and everything, drove for a day, then cut out again.

If you say it cuts out do you mean you loose power ? Like it goes into limp mode ?

The engine just dies. Everything else is still on but no fuel going into the engine. Cranks but no start. Eliminated crank sensor, relay 109, fuse 32,34, pump, fuel sender,ECU. Now the cut off valve isn't opening. That's what I was told by the mechanic

There is no cut off valve on the pump. It is electronically controlled metering via the ecu. Although it is a mechanical pump the metering is not done by mechanical means thus there is no simple shut off valve. If that is what your mechanic thinks then henis already out of his depth.

So what is that solenoid valve for then ?

Mmm Ok they still have a cutoff solenoid. Found it in some pics. I was almost sure they dropped that. Well test that for power and see if it moves the plunger when you power it up.

According to what i have seen on google, they say you can remove that plunger and refit that solenoid and see if the engine starts. You can shut the engine off by closing the anti shudder valve by hand.
