Problems with 2001 jetta iv 1.9 tdi

Post by Jenluke »

Hi guys.

I am in desperate need of help. I purchased a Jetta iv 2001 1.9 tdi 2 years ago from a guy who bought it new. It has 455000kms on and has a full service history.

The problems started 9 months ago when the cambelt snapped bending 2 valves and 2 lifters got stuck in the head. The cambelt was replaced and the head was redone. After that the car has just given one problem after the next. To date i have replaced the turbo with a recon turbo, the water pump, the N10 valve on the vacuum system, new oil feed lines to the turbo, injectors have been cleaned, the intercooler removed and cleaned the sensor that sits on top of the intercooler has been replaced. Vacuum system has been checked by four different mechanics, the egr has been blanked off, diagnostics has been run about 6 times. 5 different mechanics have looked at the car 3 of them throwing there hands up in the air saying that they have no idea.

The problem is, is that the car is not boosting. The car starts and drives, idles noisy. It is smoking but not excessively. The valve timing and pump timing is correct.

I have thrown 13000 grand at this car calling in a lot of favours. I am at my wits end and needless to say in debt for 13000 which i had to take 2 personnel loans for.

Is there anybody who can help me PLEEEEASE!!!!! :bang:

Hi

Did they check the Maf sensor? Will not show up as error. You will need to check the readings while driving.
Where are you based?
Maybe one of the forum members can do a simple log for you.

I experienced the same issue and at the end of the day I removed the whole vacume system and now just running the n75 valve.

Scream if you need help if you are close. I am in the south of Joburg.

Put it on a lift. Check where the arm sits for vane controller. It must go to the stop when the car is switched off. if it does not go to the stop the vanes is bypassing gas from the empeller. That means little to no boost. They get carbonned up. it should also move vey easily. On several I was able to kind of force the vanes to reach the stop again and move it aggressively until it moves smootly again and that returned the boost.

Has the fuel pump timing been done correctly using vagcom or just by timing marks?

Have you checked that the vacuum hose to the actuator on the turbo itself is fine?

Is the actuator on the turbo set correctly?

Why was the turbo replaced? Was it just for fault finding?

Perhaps check some of the fuses above the driver side footwell.

Mag sensor perhaps.

Is the exhaust note a lot louder than normal while driving? Does it boost at all? If it is louder than normal then the car could be in limp mode. The ecu is picking up and issue if that is the case

Rather buy a good quality part that will last then buying a cheap part that won't last.

Yes, or he was not so desperate in help. Or he sold the car as is.
