No man! They actually see a lot of use, and I rent them out sometimes. They make me some cash

In addition to my 1000D and 18-55 (for sale), bought the following:

600D (was going for the 60D but cash was tight, very good camera though!!!)
18-55 3.5-5.6
70-300 3.5-5.6
50mm prime f1.8

Going to be selling off the old camera and all the lenses and hoping to get the following in the near future:
55-250mm (I think the 55-250 is more versitile than the 70-300 imo)
24-70 f2.8 wiff the hood
10-20mm
2 light setup (strobe kit)
CP filter and UV filter
Automotive rig
battery grip

This sh!t is so expensive though!!!

Went around to ODP today to trade in some of the lenses that I no longer use (They give great prices BTW)

Been looking for another bag for a while now (Old one is getting a bit worn and is just too small) and had a look at what they have. Decided to take the ThinkTank Airport Accelerator. Bloody nice bag (if somewhat pricey). The build quality is much better than any Lowepro bag I had before

Looks like so

Image

With the kit that I normally shoot with in it

Image

So in this bag I have:
D3 with 70-200 VRII attached
D90 with Sigma 10-20 attached
Gloves (kak to shoot when your hands are freezing)
Tamron 24-70 f2.8
Nikon TC20 III teleconverter
Nikon 50mm f1.8
Nikon 70-300 VR
Delkin Fat Ghekko bracket (if you want to attach a camera to a pillar or similar, this thing is the business)
Dual strap
Spare batteries
Phottix Strato II transmitter + 2 receivers
Some cleaning stuff
SB 900
Raincoat for the bag, plus one for the camera
Couple of CF and SD cards
Micnova foldup softbox-style diffuser (I prefer this over the Gary Fong Lightsphere for many reasons, most of all being size and this thing doesn't throw light back in your eye while shooting)

The bag can also hold a 17" laptop plus a 10" tablet, but the weight becomes ridiculous then
I used to have money.... But now I have a Racecar!!! :driving:

So I got rid of all the above to step over to Nikon.
Now my kit consists solely on:
Nikon D300s with original grip
Nikkor AFS 35mm F1.8 G

Awesome awesome camera!

Will start building up my nikon kit shortly.

So I bought a new lens and tripod. 400mm non mirrored, 800m with the doubler.

Looks a bit like this.

Some video freeze frames I took off a shoot we did this weekend. These were shot at +-45 meters away, Carnival City, Back of the floor to stage.

Tripod weighs about 18kilos, and supports 90kgs, and is perfectly balanced for super steady close up work. Lens, camera, batteries and transmission modules weigh combined about 35kgs. Not your standard portable rig.

lawrence wrote:Thanks Nazmo - certainly something I will look into.... it is a bit of a catch 22 though.... on the 1 hand as a detailer seeing the reflections in freshly polished paint is like a fat kid opening is his eyes in Charlie's Chocolate factory  but before and during the detail, it is often very diffcult to effectively capture paint defects such as swirl marks, because you essentially need a bright light source to show the swirl marks in the first place.

Guess I just need to play around a bit and get a little more familiar with taking pics first...

Do you have any advise on what sort of filter to get (I know squat about this stuff so treat me like a little kid here.... brand/price/type etc?)

The polarised filters are adjustable to you can go from one extreme to the other. Cheap online so you cant go wrong.
A ND Fader can also be useful to you if you want to "macro" in on detail with the exact exposure you want.
