Post by Howie-WP »

I am in ballito on the north coast, we don’t really have the cold like you guys do in CT. When I do have the problem of misty windshield I just use the AC for a few minutes and it’s gone after that.

A bunch of those little silica bags like you get in a shoe box. Throw those at the base between the dash and the windscreen.

Howzit bud......

The best is to get a dedicated windscreen cleaner..... I just bought C-Thru for the outside and for the inside I use ONR.... BUT the mistake is that we don't use proper cloths to clean the windscreens and this is where the issue starts when hot and cold air mix's inside the car.

Buy some C-Thru and apply it to the inside and outside of the windscreen.

Ive seen that the cat litter crystals work wonders.

Simply fill a sock full of the cat crystals, place the sock under the drivers seat (perhaps one under each seat).

They absorb all the humidity and also sell like nothing.

Holts anti mist did not work for me...

Trying this. Added to the mk3 and used this morning, and no interior misting. However, will test again when raining and see. Decided to use the cat (not kat) crystals as a bag is cheaper than these, which I use in my Defender.

First thing to check - Does it smell sweet? You may have a heater core leak or an AC evaporator that's not draining properly.

If it is not that, is there any other obvious sign of excess moisture in the car? This is undoubtedly what is causing the issue - broken door seals maybe?

As for preventing fogging up, the reason it fogs is because when the water condenses it rolls up into extremely small beads of water. Your best option is to avoid glass cleaners on the inside of the glass that contain silicones or waxes as they make the surface bead. Most aerosol cleaners also cause slight water beading (I'm not 100% sure why, but I'd assume it's to do with the propellant).

I've read about people using shaving cream of dishwashing liquid which will leave behind surfactants that kill off any potential beading (think about how dishwashing liquid causes water to sheet off your dishes as opposed to beading up on them) but not sure if I would try that.

But you do want to keep the windows inside clean as dirt particles are going to give the water molecules something more to bond to on the glass.

FWIW I have tried Gyeon Anti Fog and it really doesn't work well, so don't waste your time with it.

Nope, had the sweet smell before and ended up by passing heater core.

Not that either. I think its just with me in the car that causes the inside to be warmer and moisture then condenses on the screen that is cold.

Have used the cat crystals and so far seems to be working. Will report back as it develops.

This is an interesting topic as we have had misting issues on the race car before. There was one race in particular with heavy rain last year and I couldn't see anything. It was actually quite dangerous thinking about it.

Someone went around some of the pits wiping the inside of the windscreens with some purple liquid. You apply by dabbing and let it flash off, no rubbing to remove. No idea what it was. They were kinda secretive about it. Any ideas?

Something else to check is what, if any, 'dressing' type product you are using on your interior - sometimes these can 'off-gas', leading to the residue on the windscreen which causes the misting...

On newer cars the off-gassing that occurs from the new vinly/plastics can also contribute

As will smoking in the car.
