Sanding and preping for spraying rims

Post by arsonist »

HI.

Have banded/widened rims on my citi golf. problem is surface rust. best way to get rid of it to prep them for spraying. the dude had those moon caps on and basically they have rust because he was riding with the moon hubs for a year+

Just looking for the best way to sand and prep for spraying without the used of sand blasting (working on a budget)

Guessing the good old fashion way of elbow grease, but need a guide for sanding and prepping. which grid sandpaper to use,how to make best use with low budget and time saving.

spraying them white if that makes any difference, cooilo cheers.

Wire brush drill attachment.

You can get a cheap set for about 150 bucks at Builders that has various sizes and shapes of brushes.

You can even perhaps have them sand plasted at a place? Not sure what that costs lately, but hey if you lazy....

What Alron said, if they are really bad, start with something like 320 and go up from there. I like to use a decent etch primer if you are going to sand down to the bare metal just to make sure the paint sticks properly

Normally around R250 to sandblast 4 wheels, for that price and the amount of labour it saves, you should consider it

There is a guy out in Atlantis who does it for me, but lives in a scary part and is a bit unreliable in terms of timeframes.
