'08 9n3 Polo Trend Radio Upgrade
I currently have an RCD 200 hu fitted in the above vehicle.
I really want to upgrade to something that has Bluetooth functionality.
Hoopers VW told me that there are no factory units available and I will have to go aftermarket. Is this true?
I asked for a quote at a Durban sound installer and the cheapest quote was nearly R4000 for a fully installed JVC double DIN hu!
I'm really not looking for anything fancy. I'm just tired of using an fm transmitter full of cables that sounds terrible. I'd like something that looks clean and somewhat close to OEM.
Any ideas for an affordable upgrade option?

Your best bet will be going aftermarket, just make sure they don't cut the wires if you want to convert back to factory. They should install the radio with an iso plug and a bullet on the arial.

Thank you for the advice. Do you know of anywhere in Durban that will do a reliable job without breaking the bank?TDIFlava wrote:Your best bet will be going aftermarket, just make sure they don't cut the wires if you want to convert back to factory. Other simple option ,plug and plug option is the Polo Vivo HU - Bluetooth & USB (Very common upgrade for the 9n3 Polo's)
Go for +-1000 bucks at most.

That's what I initially wanted to do but was led to believe by vw that this was not a simple process of swapping the HU as they are not interchangeable.ICE King wrote:Other simple option ,plug and plug option is the Polo Vivo HU - Bluetooth & USB (Very common upgrade for the 9n3 Polo's)

Are you referring to the rmt 100 HU. Where would you suggest I look for one?

No ,not the rmt 100 HU even though it's a option as well they are hard to come by.,WabaLabaDub wrote:That's what I initially wanted to do but was led to believe by vw that this was not a simple process of swapping the HU as they are not interchangeable.ICE King wrote:Other simple option ,plug and plug option is the Polo Vivo HU - Bluetooth & USB (Very common upgrade for the 9n3 Polo's)

I'm referring to the HU in the polo vivo specifically but keep in mind they are only interchangeable if you have the RCD100(single Din) and not the RCD200(Double Din).
See link for a image of the VIVO HU(They very easy to get):

If I got a single DIN fascia would I be able to fit this vivo unit or are the connectors also different?

Re: '08 9n3 Polo Trend Radio Upgrade
Correct , connector is the same for the Vivo unit if you have the single din.
Unfortunately the plug is different on the RCD200, - There are interface adapters available online - from double to single unit and vice versa
They will cut your wires should you go aftermarket.

Bought a three month old Vivo HU off Facebook (watch out on the buy n sell sound groups) those bass addicts sell their HUs immediately after taking delivery of their new cars)
Took my car and booked it in to a reputable sound shop and they did the rest. Only problem is the storage bin under the single din radio. I couldnt find one at a scrap yard, R730 form stealers
Vivo HU - R750
Storage bin - R730
Install - R550
Pricey but bluetooth is becoming a necessity nowadays.

Re: '08 9n3 Polo Trend Radio Upgrade
I found this unit for sale on Gumtree for R1500.
Does anyone know if I would be able to simply swap my RCD200 with this one or would I need an adapter for the wiring?

I have no idea honestly. The sound shop is an official Rockford Fosgate dealer in Windhoek so I doubt they did a crappy job.stig wrote:But how badly did they slash your harness?viktor wrote:I went from RCD 200 to Polo Vivo head unit.WabaLabaDub wrote:Unfortunately I have the RCD 200.ICE King wrote:

This is the HU I have in my 2017 Vivo. Been trying to get the model number to check the specs. Manual doesn't give anything.WabaLabaDub wrote:I found this unit for sale on Gumtree for R1500.

Can you provide me with the model number please?
