Well this weekend I probed my factory radio for a remote trigger with no luck for a 12v switch.
However I did find that if I measured between chassis ground and any of the speaker wires I would get a reading of about 5.8v when the radio is switched on and then back to 0 when powered off no matter the volume as well.
Now my question is would it be safe to connect up the coil of a 5vdc or 6vdc relay between the above mentioned wires so that they would switch a 12vdc power on the contacts?
This option would be a lot cheaper than going to buy a new hi-low converter or amp with remote turn on circuitry.
Also note, no speaker will be connected to the speaker wire that I use.
Thanks

Re: Remote wire idea
Just connect it to the ignition or the 12v socket, overloading the radio amplifier can permanently damage it.

Re: Remote wire idea
You shouldnt have any voltage on the amplifier outputs with the volume on minimum. Something is strange there.
What radio is it? Most amps with high level inputs will turn on automatically. If the amp does not have high level inputs then you need a converter in any case.

Re: Remote wire idea
If it's a factory head unit then just use a line out convertor that has a remote switch on.
