Greetings all!
After looking for decent reliable car for my mom I settled on a '94 Fox 1.6 AT with 138k km ... I felt like I was going back in time when I got behind the wheel. Personally, I'm a qualified Jaguar/Rover/Range Rover mechanic, left the trade and moved on in 1986 after completing my apprenticeship. There have been many industry changes since... but the Fox is still familiar.
I'm currently sitting with an unusual problem which I'll post under the relevant section.
Regards,
Ralf

Re: New Fox Owner
Hi Ralf, and welcome...
I also remember the Fox from when it was introduced; my aunt bought one in 1990 (to replace her light green 1974 Passat L), when I was at varsity. As chance would have it, she gave it to me as a present when she emigrated in 2005. In my opinion, as a runaround, they are pretty unbeatable.

Re: New Fox Owner
True! I've just fitted new tyres to sort out the "heavy steering" issue (alignment all okay) ... it made a world of difference, the steering now feels like power steering and road imperfections are absorbed by the new rubber. Tomorrow I'm fitting 1800 vented discs and better pads to sort out the brake shudder.VAG Fan wrote:Hi Ralf, and welcome...

The 3-speed auto box is also reliable and cheap to repair should things go wrong. They could've continued building this car to appeal to those just wanting a simple, cheap, no nonsense runaround.
