New Member / AGG Long vs short intake

Post by Wolfsburg Nut »

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member and have been checking the forums on the above topic and have come up short.

This is our set up: A beetle chassis with a CJ 3 Jeep fibre glass body.
When we bought the car the bug motor was too lame.
We went with the AGG due to its lower rpm for peak torque.
A Gilo adapter plate with a kombi clutch supplies the drive, standard 1500 box.
We bought a MP9 together with it's long inlet manifold and had it chipped for the 2l Polo Cup.
We had a new short harness made to run it.

Question:
The AGG comes with a short manifold. Is it a proposition to drill it to accept the sensor for the MP9, or do we replace it with the long manifold with the sensor installed?
We are primarily after torque in our set up and have heard that the the long manifold will improve the torque. Is this hearsay or actual?

Welcome, yes the long intake improves bottom end torque alot, wont make a mistake if you fit it

Thanks, that resolves that one, any idea if it will affect the fuel consumption in any way?

No idea on fuel consumption but I dont think it will be affected as VW used those intakes on all our local golfies so it cant be that bad. In fact I will bet that it might be a bit lighter as you have more torque to get going and dont need to rev higher to get up to speed

Perfect, it's going in today. Fingers crossed, never done something like this before, lets hope it starts and runs. As you say,if it was installed by VW SA, fuel consumption will not be a nasty surprise. Lets hope that the light but very draggy body doesn't push it too high, I will be doing 100km on the highway per day with it in a few months! :driving:
