Re: new member
Engine number is your only true guide.
GY 1300
HS (same)
HM 1600
HV 1800
There are quite a few more engine blocks that are a direct bolt on replacement for the stock motor, I say this as its very common for a Citi to undergo a transplant rather than repair in the event of an engine failure.
Check on the block under the front water flange, to the left of the distributor to find the engine number. A small piece of sand paper or chalk can help you read it. Post up the first two/three letters and I will give you the engine size as per factory.

Re: 86-97 1800 carb motor tuning
Look on the block between no3 and no4 sparkplugs. The code is there with a number behind it. It should be HV for 1800 and HM for 1600.
How is the vacuum pipes connected on the carb? Take a picture and upload here.
The second stage could be stuck and not opening. Had that on mine due to it standing for a long time and petrol tirned to sticky jelly and second stage being stuck closed.
When last was your car serviced and is plugs and distributor cap and rotor in good condition?
